420 was started by 12 kids at San Rafael High School, CA back in 1971. They considered that 4:20 PM was the time that they planned to meet up and light a joint. Now I don't know how this became an international dope smoking time but nowadays 420 is considered a way of declaring that one likes to use marijuana or just a term for the substance itself. Now its a sub cultural thing and a lot of urban legends have popped up around it. Some being that it's the number of chemical compounds in marijuana and 420 is the penal code section for use of marijuana in CA. Well that's Dope 101 for you.
